We take our GCSE preparation very seriously We teach our students how to succeed in their exams to enable them to go on to further study and be qualified for whichever career they may choose. A nurturing education and being well prepared for public exams are mutually compatible aims if integrated in the right way.
They will be offered a variety of subjects to give them a broad range of GCSE qualifications. From year 10 they will study in classes following the individual subjects chosen. A cross subject interconnected approach to thinking is brought forward from years 7-9 and we will look to complement studies in different subjects to encourage interconnected thinking. For example a “Conflict and Resolution in the 20th Century” history module would be taught alongside “Animal Farm” in English to enhance the deeper understanding of both.
Leaving the school with good grades in exams is of utmost importance to us. We will achieve this without losing sight of the wider educational objectives of our school.
Students will have the option to do their GCSEs over a three year period by staying at the school for an extra year.
We would like to give our students more time to develop their learning abilities for qualifications before going onto further education or work. This allows students to have more time to negotiate GCSE studies at their own pace.
Practically this means that students can do their GCSEs over two years with their groups in the standard fashion. Then if they require they can join year 11 groups for a third year of study.
