4-day-flexi-time learning for 10 to 14 year olds.
Over the last 18 months we have been creating a wonderful learning culture where children develop and express their innate love of learning. For the next part of our development plan we are going to become a 4-day flexi-time school from September 2018, offering a maximum of 18 hours of learning for children aged 7 to 14.
Made to measure learning. Children aged 7 to 14 can come for 1, 2, 3 or 4 days a week. It allows us to offer a more varied timetable to balance our topic-based approach and is a stepping stone to becoming a full-time school.

Creative  -  Soulful - Democratic

Yoga, meditation and democratic choice

Students self-direct their way through our unique educational programme that integrates the mind and body. Daily yoga and meditation enhance their capacity for learning and self-management. In our democratic meetings, students learn to find their voice and make decisions collectively.

We offer a uniquely creative approach to learning which offers guidance at the same time as supporting and developing student autonomy. We have a topic decided by the democratic meeting as well as stand-alone subjects and sessions directed by the students themselves.

We take a Socratic approach which is led by the students’ curiosity and questioning. Students choose what they want to study individually or as a group. The emphasis is on nurturing a love of learning. Research homework and written assignments are offered.

Our Flexi-Timetable

Designed to have structured and unstructured activities to balance students’ need for guidance and for greater autonomy in their learning. It is also designed to support flexi-schooling where students can come all week or choose the day or days that most interest them.

Topic-based learning

In yellow you can see that we have a termly topic that is chosen by the students and the teachers in our democratic meeting. It interconnects science, humanities and arts to offer an integrated holistic approach to study that treats the world as one interconnected whole. It allows students to think freely, make creative connections with their learning and see the big picture.

Stand alone subjects

In English literature we study novels, poems or plays chosen by the students which may connect to the topic. However, not all subjects fit easily into this approach. Languages need to be taught separately as does maths. Creative writing is free for the children to explore whatever they want. All the studies are designed to be excellent preparation for GCSE too.
