Admissions

Admissions

Admissions may take place at any time during the school year and parents and students can arrange to visit the school to see for themselves how our innovative approach works.

The process is one that allows the child and parents to get to know us step by step, and make an informed decision about this being the place for them. It also allows HBS as a learning community to gauge whether the child is going to adapt to our way of learning.

The steps are the following:

1. An open morning. This allows a first contact with no pressure on the child to do anything. They can watch a class, observe the democratic meeting and get to know our staff and students in a relaxed fashion. You can book to come to one here.

2. Children attend an informal interview with their parents. This is an opportunity to find out more about the child, how and what they like to learn and inform them about what we do. Children are free to ask any question they wish. It is also an opportunity for parents to ask further questions and deal with administrative matters.

3. The next stage is a “try it and see” trial which can last as many days as you wish. A maximum of 1 term  and a minimum of 2 days.

4. Once the trial is over the child, the parents and HBS together decide whether the child can become a member of the school. The vast majority of trials result in the child joining us. It is important that the steps are gradual allowing the child to feel their way through the admissions process.
